Artists’ Drawings publishes drawings made by artists with a focus on how drawing can be used to develop and articulate ideas. Led by images and intentions, it combines drawings made today with others from the near and distant past.

Issue #1 explores relationships between drawing and sculpture through forty drawings (broadly defined) selected from an open call for submissions and museum collections. Alongside these drawings are three short commissioned texts—by Stu Burke, Olivia Bax and Matt Page — including an excerpt from Paul Valéry’s writing on drawing.

Drawings can live in my sketchbooks for years before being realised. Many lay dormant forever, remaining as evidence of an idea. I often work across multiple ideas at the same time, so the drawings sometimes reside with text works that are not intended for them, occasionally providing new contexts for them to consider”.  — Cos Ahmet
